Planning a wedding is a bit like embarking on a big adventure: exciting, sometimes stressful, but above all, full of discoveries. As we started planning ours, we learned quite a few things along the way... and there were definitely some surprises we wish we had anticipated!
If we had known all of this from the beginning, we would have saved time… and reduced stress!
Whether you’re just starting to plan your wedding in the Caribbean, or you’re already deep into the preparations, here are 5 things we wish we’d known from the start:
1. Allow more time for certain decisions
We often think that choosing decorations, outfits, or even vendors is quick and easy… but that’s not the case! Between comparisons, discussions with vendors, and small adjustments, some decisions take much longer than expected.
Carib Wedding tip: Set realistic deadlines and give yourself plenty of room to reflect and compare without feeling pressured. To help with this, don’t hesitate to consult our complete guide on creating a smooth wedding timeline.
2. Be mindful of the little details that take up too much space
We quickly realized that once the big decisions were made, we could spend hours (yes, really) scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest searching for the perfect idea for our place cards, table decor, or even guest gifts. And honestly… it’s endless if we don’t set limits.
Carib Wedding tip: Focus first on the essential choices (venue, caterer, photographer, etc.) before getting lost in the details. And most importantly, remember that these small choices don’t define the beauty of your day.

3. Don’t be afraid to delegate during your wedding planning
At the start, we wanted to manage everything ourselves to make sure every detail reflected us. But we soon realized that surrounding ourselves with loved ones (and good vendors) made all the difference.
Carib Wedding tip: Don’t hesitate to delegate, even for small tasks. Your loved ones will often be happy to help, and it will make the planning process much lighter. Also, make sure to hire professionals who specialize in weddings. And especially, surround yourself with vendors who are familiar with the specificities of a wedding in the Caribbean.

4. Your wedding budget can quickly rise: plan ahead!
Between the little extras added over time and the expenses you forget to anticipate (like guest gifts or last-minute costs), the budget can quickly spiral.
Carib Wedding tip: Set aside a "contingency" amount in your budget from the start. This will save you from many last-minute headaches.

5. The pressure can build up… and that’s normal!
Between all the choices, deadlines, and unexpected delays, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed at times. We also had our moments of doubt... but looking back, we realize that everything always works out in the end.
Carib Wedding tip: Take breaks and most importantly, take the time to enjoy the positive moments: finding your outfit, tasting the menu, and spending time with your loved ones… These are the moments that make your wedding planning unique and unforgettable.

Every wedding is different, and it’s often in these unexpected moments that the most beautiful memories are created. By staying flexible and accepting that not everything will be perfect, you’ll experience this adventure much more peacefully.
